A better manager for Android

by

Forget about the factory default PC suite for Android. It’s so bad to be using them, I found it quite annoying or in other word totally useless except when upgrading my phone firmware. In my case, I am using Samsung Kies with my little Galaxy S. A few days ago while I am searching for some buzz about my Galaxy S coming 2.3 Gingerbread update, i found this: “Android Sync Manager Wifi”. Wow! It’s cool. What I like about this is it’s capable of sync everything (almost) over WiFi.

Android Sync Manager WiFi is the first Wireless PC Sync Tool in Android Market. With Android Sync Manager, you can manage your handset data easily and wireless sync with your PC via WiFi technology. Including contacts, messages, photos, video, music, applications and calendar.

File transfer via Wifi

Seriously, it’s better than factory default PC suite. But there are some problem for me, it keep saying WiFi: Obtaining IP address from xxxxx. But, it’s still work. So, how about you? Please comment below and let us know!

I successfully used HTC Sync on my recently purchased HTC Desire S (Android 2.3 Gingerbread), but found the wired USB solution rather “20th century”, so I looked for a wireless alternative, like Bluetooth.

Then I stumbled over Android Sync Manager as promising WiFi alternative with an attractive GUI and dito features.

My experience with Android Sync Manager WiFi:

    - installation went fine
    - 1st time sync (after first deleting all Contacts and Agenda entries on my HTC) went fine, though it took quite some time and I had to allow access to Outlook several times through pop-up screens
    - 2nd time sync: Contacts sync went fine again, but all Agenda entries got duplicated! I already noticed this from the Sync report, so I only performed a sync for This Week to limit the damage.

    My questions:

    - Is ASM WiFi compatible with Android 2.3?
    - How to avoid the duplicated Agenda entries?

    Hi Andre ter Haar,
Unfortunately, ASM didn’t state clearly which version of Android do it support. And for the second question. I think there are 2 application syncing your device. Perhaps it’s Google Calender or else. So for this, I think you should stop using one. Or perhaps,——stop using ASM and continue your HTC Sync for your better life———-

I am Sorry for the damage. Try to contact ASM developer if the problem insist occuring

It’s messy and confusing, and when you delete a photo album from Android Manager, it leaves it on your DuhRoid. The manual is worse than useless, it just tells you what options there are, but nothing about how to use or not to use it. Slackware for those who expect to have to figure out how things dysfunction on their own.

It’s working on my Galaxy S. What happen?

My conclusion, after spending hours on getting Android Sync Manager (ASM) WiFi to work fine, is that it’s usability is quite poor, so I won’t use it anymore:

    - syncing requires manual Outlook approval
    - syncing progress is EXTREMELY slow compared to HTC USB Sync (minutes vs. seconds) and it often needs a re-start after it has aborted
    - syncing is unreliable, due to potential duplication/overwrites/deletes of especially Agenda entries. It simply doesn’t seem to notice that certain entries in Outlook and Android are actually the same, so it should decide which one to choose and not duplicate them!

BTW, I did find out, that the duplicate Agenda entries were probably caused by syncing with Gmail, though I never enabled this option in ASM (I only enabled Outlook)! Does it do so by default?

Anyway, after cleaning up my Contacts/Agenda on my Android HTC by means of HTC USB Sync, I switched off the Gmail calendar view (duplicate blue Gmail entries), leaving only the Outlook view visible (unique green entries) :-)

But i believe ASM is good in transferring file. I used ASM because of this.

This program is slow and laggy as shit.

  8. Tim says:

I started using ASM as it was referred by a Verizon person. I find it does most things very well. It will not sync my calendar on my Pantech Breakout. The option is grayed out, and is not select able. Is that resolved on a purchased product?

    Thank you
